Strates d’écritures IV combines the tunnels bored by bark beetles with contemporary calligraphy inspired by texts by Philippe Jaccottet. The words take their place within the network of tunnels, following their lines, detours and forks. The pattern of the wood thus becomes a path, whilst the writing accompanies that of thought: it moves forward, returns, veers off and continues on its way. Two forms of writing thus meet within the material: one traces the path of living reproduction, the other that of human thought. The tunnel becomes a path, and the word becomes a trace.
