Typo A in alabaster

H17 cm · L19,5 cm · P7 cm
Alabaster

The letter A is perhaps the one that has traveled the farthest. Descended from the Phoenician aleph—a stylized bull’s head—it has been inverted, geometrized, and simplified over the millennia into the symbol we write today without a second thought.

This sculpture is the second version in the Typo series dedicated to this letter. After ash, now alabaster. The same basic architecture—triangular stability, central opening—but the stone has shifted everything toward the mineral, toward the archaic.

The flat surfaces interact with very gentle hollows. The light plays differently depending on the time of day and the angle. Depending on the viewpoint, the sculpture changes profoundly: at times one reads the letter, at others a presence that one cannot quite name.

As if the A were still continuing its evolution.
