Pear wood, steel base and stand
Second piece in the Synthèse series, combining sculpture and contemporary calligraphy. The two sides are treated differently. One is smooth to highlight the calligraphy.
The other has been brushed to bring out the wood's veins and give it a waxed appearance without adding matter. The most brittle parts of the wood were removed, so that the tree itself played a part in the creation of the work, as it did for Synthèse I.
