Entomoglyphe
H15,5 cm, L13 cm, P12 cm
Beech wood and acrylic painting
Made from beech wood, this sculpture carries within it the memory of the bark beetles that have passed through it. The galleries dug beneath the bark, which disappeared during shaping and sanding, have been reworked, re-engraved, and highlighted in white.
This gesture makes visible the signs left by the life—and perhaps the death—of the tree. The traces of insects thus become something else: lines of writing, mysterious glyphs, a message buried in the material and revealed by the work of the hand.
Entomoglyphe questions the way in which signs are formed, disappear, and reappear, like fragments of stories that can be deciphered through the wood.
